A Coast Guard crew stopped a vessel Wednesday with eight Cuban migrants
aboard about six miles off Key Biscayne, according to Petty Officer Mark
Barney.

The crew, stationed in Miami Beach, was on routine patrol at about 1:30
p.m. when they spotted the “rustic vessel,” Barney said.

The men appeared to be in good condition, other than showing some signs
of dehydration, Barney said.

The men will be put on a Coast Guard Cutter to await repatriation.

Also on Wednesday, 52 Cuban migrants were repatriated after four
separate stops.

On Tuesday, 64 Cuban migrants were repatriated after five separate stops
at sea in the southern Florida Straits.

In August, 65 Cuban migrants were repatriated as a result of six
interdictions.

Since Oct. 1, the Coast Guard 7th District estimates that 4,084 Cubans
have tried to illegally migrate by sea.
